WrestleVotes: No immediate rematch planned between Roman Reigns and Penta after Raw in Mexico City

Roman Reigns retained the World Heavyweight Championship against Penta on the September 14 edition of Raw in Mexico City, Mexico. Penta had earned the title shot by winning a tournament to become the number one contender.

Penta reached the main-event opportunity by defeating his brother Rey Fenix in the tournament final to secure the Raw title match. The Mexico City crowd vocally supported Penta, the bout finished cleanly with Reigns pinning Penta, and the result ended a run of consecutive World title changes that began with Sami Zayn’s title win on Friday on SmackDown.

WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select reported that WWE currently has no plans for a rematch between Reigns and Penta, while adding the company views the Mexico City encounter as a matchup it could revisit. The report also says people inside WWE believe Penta has done enough to remain near the top of the card and has established himself as a legitimate main-eventer. That internal assessment underpins why the promotion considers the Reigns–Penta pairing a viable option for future return bookings.

Following the title defence on Raw, Roman Reigns was ambushed by LA Knight, an angle that set up Reigns’ next defence at Money in the Bank 2026 in New Orleans. Reigns is scheduled to defend the World Heavyweight Championship for a fifth time against LA Knight at the 2026 edition of Money in the Bank in New Orleans next month.
