Wu Yize defeated Yuan Sijun 10-5 in an all-Chinese final at the Shenzhen Open at the Bao'an Sports Centre on Sunday to claim his first ranking title since becoming world champion; it was his third ranking title.

Wu, 22, had won the World Championship at the Crucible in May and became the second-youngest player to lift that title when he beat Shaun Murphy. He followed that success with a composed display to overcome surprise finalist Yuan at the Bao'an Sports Centre on Sunday.

En route to the final Wu demolished Judd Trump 6-1 in the semi-finals. In the opening session of the final Wu compiled breaks of 117 and 80 to move 3-1 ahead, before Yuan, playing in his first ranking final, won three frames in succession. Wu then produced two further half-century breaks in the closing frames of the opening session to lead 5-4 in the best-of-19 match.

Wu returned in the evening session with breaks of 74 and 62 to take control at 8-5 as Yuan struggled with his safety play. Yuan, 26, could not recover and Wu closed out the match 10-5 to secure the trophy and the £177,000 top prize. There was no way back for Yuan in the final stages.

The victory pushed Wu to a career-high second place in the world rankings, behind Zhao Xintong. The move elevated him ahead of Judd Trump and Neil Robertson, while Yuan jumped seven places to 26th and earned £76,000 for reaching the final.

The result means China has the leading two players in the world rankings for the first time, further illustrating the country's position as a snooker superpower.
