WWE rumor roundup: Rey Mysterio retirement talk, five-on-five WarGames plan, Sin Cara return considered

WWE’s latest rumor roundup on October 23, 2026, reported backstage discussion about Rey Mysterio possibly retiring in 2027, a reported plan for a five-on-five men’s WarGames match at Survivor Series 2026, consideration of a Sin Cara return and a scheduling clash between NXT and AEW Dynamite on November 4.
Crown Jewel 2026 drew extra attention amid uncertainty over the PLE venue, and TKO CEO Ari Emanuel provided positive updates on the event. NXT will shift from its usual Tuesday slot to Wednesday, November 4, because The CW is carrying midterm election coverage, a change reported by Fightful that places NXT directly opposite AEW Dynamite: Blood & Guts. That Wednesday meeting will be the first time the two shows have gone head-to-head on a Wednesday since 2021, and NXT’s episode will follow Halloween Havoc on October 31.
WWE has reportedly explored bringing Sin Cara back to television by resurrecting the gimmick with a new performer, according to reports; the Stamford-based promotion is considering early ideas for the character. The Sin Cara persona has not appeared on WWE programming since 2019 when the company released the wrestler then portraying it. The gimmick was introduced in WWE in 2011 with Mistico, later adopted by Hunico and subsequently teamed with Kalisto as Lucha Dragons.
WrestleVotes reported there has been some "backstage chatter" about Rey Mysterio retiring in 2027 and said WWE is working on how to present such an idea though no plan has been finalized. Mysterio previously said he was not sure about retirement plans because he was loving the current schedule and stated he would "wing it" and would not make any plans to retire. The 48-year-old remains an active WWE wrestler and is also seen as the on-air general manager of AAA; the reported retirement discussions have not been confirmed by the company or by Mysterio.
Officials are said to be pleased with Nikki Bella’s recent digital engagement and merchandise performance, according to WrestleVotes Radio of Fightful, and that has increased the likelihood of television appearances. Bella is a Hall of Famer and a former Divas Champion who returned at the 2025 Royal Rumble, has been sidelined earlier this year by an injury yet remains part of ongoing storylines, and is scheduled to challenge Chelsea Green on the October 30 episode of SmackDown.
Fightful, citing WrestleVotes Radio, reported WWE’s current plan for the men’s WarGames match at Survivor Series 2026 is a five-on-five format, up from the four-on-four encounter on the October 19 episode of RAW. The Bloodline’s core listed in coverage consists of Roman Reigns, Jimmy Uso, Jey Uso and Solo Sikoa, while The 946 reportedly includes Royce Keys, Carmelo Hayes, Bronco Nima and Lucien Price, leaving an extra spot available on each side if those are the main participants. The reports also note Jacob Fatu’s absence from programming after being run down by Jaida Parker on Raw and say final participants and any additional surprises remain unknown.
Survivor Series 2026 is scheduled for November, but Khel Now reports the complete match card and the official WarGames lineups have not been confirmed.
