Xbox’s Disc-to-Digital feature rolls out worldwide for all Xbox users

Microsoft’s Xbox Disc-to-Digital feature became available worldwide to all Xbox users on September 30, 2026, allowing owners of physical Xbox games to unlock a digital license by inserting the game disc into a supported Xbox console.

The rollout removes the previous Insider-only restriction and includes user-interface changes intended to streamline entitlement. Xbox Play Anywhere titles are covered by the process and include a digital copy for Xbox Play Anywhere compatible Windows PCs and Xbox handheld devices, enabling play without using the disc each time. Microsoft has put limits in place to prevent abuse: if a player sells, loses or gives away the physical disc, they will lose the associated digital license. Not every physical game is eligible; there is already a list of available games and the article states more will be added in the future.
