Yan Diomande, the 19-year-old Real Madrid forward, told Sporty TV on August 20, 2026, that his football idol is Cristiano Ronaldo and discussed his transfer to the club and the transition to playing under José Mourinho.

Diomande said he grew up in Abidjan and frequently cited Ronaldo as his greatest childhood inspiration, at one point sketching Ronaldo’s name and number on the back of an ordinary shirt because he could not buy an authentic jersey. He described being influenced by Ronaldo’s demeanour and work ethic and expressed pride at now representing the same club where Ronaldo once played.

On handling expectations after his move, Diomande said: “Real Madrid spent a lot of money on me, but I feel no pressure. Why should I be scared? If they spent a lot of money on me, that means they believe in me. I’ll do what I do, and God will do the rest.”

Speaking about his idol, Diomande added: “Cristiano Ronaldo is my idol. His walk, his aura… I’m proud to play for the same club that my idol once played for.”

The article reports that Real Madrid paid an enormous sum to bring the teenager to the Bernabéu, a move that the piece says leaves him with big shoes to fill ahead of the new season. It also states that living up to Ronaldo’s number at the club will be a more difficult task.

The forward is described as versatile, able to play on both wings, and the coverage notes he will be hoping to make a significant impact for Real Madrid.

Diomande has stated he wants to help the club win trophies next season.
