Yashvir Singh silver, Rohit Yadav bronze in Asian Games javelin in Nagoya

Yashvir Singh threw a personal best 85.72m to win silver and Rohit Yadav took bronze with 84.35m in the javelin final at the Asian Games 2026 in Nagoya on September 28, 2026, while Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage claimed gold with 88.55m.

Neeraj Chopra withdrew because of a ligament injury, elevating responsibility for India’s challenge to younger athletes; Pathirage, 23, entered the contest as the season’s standout with a world-leading 92.62m, a Commonwealth Games gold and the world No.1 ranking.

Yashvir produced his best effort on his final attempt, improving to 85.72m and moving up from the bronze he won at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where an 85.41m final throw had been a personal best at the time.

Rohit secured bronze with a mark of 84.35m, adding a continental medal to his comeback from a serious elbow injury and surgery; he had recorded 87.05m at the National Inter-State Championships in June, becoming only the third Indian to cross 87m and placing himself among the world’s leading throwers before the Asian Games.

Pathirage’s gold continued a prolific season: he defeated Neeraj and Yashvir at the Commonwealth Games with an 89.75m throw for gold, and subsequently produced 92.62m in Rome, becoming the first man to surpass 90m in 2026 and setting the world-leading mark; he also posted 92.07m in Zurich and 91.09m at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest.

The Indian duo’s medals represented India’s second double podium in the javelin at a major multi-sport competition this year, while Pathirage’s string of big throws kept him in a separate class across the season.

Yashvir and Rohit add another major podium finish to their 2026 seasons—Yashvir advancing from a Commonwealth bronze to Asian Games silver and Rohit reinforcing his 87m breakthrough with a continental medal—and India left the event with two medals from a competition where its next generation was expected to carry the responsibility.
