Yuvraj Singh has been appointed assistant and batting coach of the Delhi Capitals ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League season, reuniting with Sourav Ganguly, the franchise announced on October 13, 2026. The 44-year-old will take up his first formal coaching role and make his debut on an IPL coaching staff with the Capitals.

Yuvraj's playing career included pivotal contributions to India's 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup successes, and in recent years he has spent time mentoring both established and emerging Indian cricketers. He previously represented the Delhi franchise in 2015, when, as a Delhi Daredevils signing for Rs 16 crore, he was the most expensive player in IPL history at the time and played in all 14 matches that season. Those experiences form part of the background to his new role in the Capitals' setup.

The appointment reunites two former India teammates as the franchise looks to end its wait for a maiden IPL title. Delhi Capitals described the move as a homecoming and positioned Yuvraj as an addition to the coaching group assembled since Sourav Ganguly took over as head coach.

On his appointment Yuvraj said: "I am excited to begin a new chapter in my life with the Delhi Capitals. I have an old association with the franchise and know the owners well, which makes this a special opportunity for me." A Delhi Capitals social post read: "A champion. A leader. . The legend who inspired generations is ready to shape Dilli's legacy. Welcome home, Yuvi paa! https://t.co/i7A77rv2tJ— Delhi Capitals (@DelhiCapitals) October 13, 2026" He added: "I'm also looking forward to teaming up with Dada, this time as coaches. Coaching is something I am truly passionate about, and I cannot wait to get started with this extremely talented squad. I'm sure it's going to be an exciting journey for me, and I look forward to contributing to the team's success,"

Across his IPL career Yuvraj played 132 matches, scored 2,750 runs and took 36 wickets. He has worked closely with young Indian batters such as Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill, and his association with Abhishek has drawn particular attention as the left-hander has developed into one of India's most explosive T20 batters.

Yuvraj's international tournament pedigree and his history of mentoring younger players are pointed to by the Capitals as reasons for his appointment, with the expectation that his experience of handling pressure in major events could benefit the dressing room. The club noted his move represents a shift from individual mentoring roles to a formal franchise coaching position.

The reunion with Ganguly brings two experienced former India players into the same coaching structure, and Yuvraj is expected to work alongside Ganguly and the rest of the support staff. Delhi have yet to win an IPL title despite reaching the final in 2020, and strengthening the coaching group is presented by the franchise as part of their effort to close that gap.

The Capitals will hope Yuvraj's record as a match-winner and his familiarity with developing young Indian talent help build a more consistent challenge for the title in the upcoming IPL season.
