Zee Entertainment secures exclusive Indian rights for Bundesliga 2026-27; season opens late August
Zee Entertainment has acquired exclusive broadcast rights in India for the Bundesliga 2026-27 season, with matches set to be available to Indian viewers on ZEE5 and Unite8 Sports as the campaign gets under way from late August 2026.
The Bundesliga calendar for 2026-27 was finalised with the first top-flight fixture slated for August 28, 2026 (BST), a week later than the previous season because of the FIFA World Cup 2026; the 2. Bundesliga began earlier, on August 7, 2026 (BST). Bayern Munich enter the new season as reigning champions after claiming their 34th domestic title with a 4-2 victory over VfB Stuttgart on Matchday 30 of last term. Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen are named among the clubs expected to mount title challenges in 2026-27.
Three clubs—FC Schalke, Elversberg and Paderborn—have been promoted to the Bundesliga for the new campaign, replacing FC St. Pauli, Heidenheim and VfL Wolfsburg in the top flight. Those changes alter the composition of the league as it prepares to restart following the World Cup break.
Under the new Indian broadcast arrangement, Zee will present live matches along with highlights and additional programming, distributing content across its ZEE5 streaming service and the Unite8 Sports television channels. The package is described as including both live coverage and ancillary studio or shoulder programming on the partnered platforms.
The deal builds on Zee’s earlier rights agreement with FIFA for the 2026 World Cup, a relationship the outlet says has already positioned the company among the region’s leading sports-rights holders. Sony Sports Network will no longer provide broadcasting of German top-flight matches in India under the new arrangement.
The opening match involving Bayern Munich and VfB Stuttgart is scheduled for 29 August at 12:00 am IST for Indian viewers; this fixture is listed as the first game available to watch on ZEE5 and Unite8 Sports in India. Indian fans can therefore expect live coverage of that opening tie via Zee’s platforms at the stated local time.
