Zverev comeback secures Team Europe sixth Laver Cup title

Alexander Zverev beat Learner Tien on the final day of the Laver Cup at London's O2 Arena to secure Team Europe's sixth title. The US Open champion recovered from a day-two loss to Alex de Minaur and won 7-6 (7-3) 6-3.

The USA's Tien, 20, was making his Team World debut and forced a first-set tiebreak, but Zverev took control in the second set and closed out the match in one hour and 49 minutes. "I haven't won a Laver Cup match in two years, so I'm happy I did it today," said Zverev.

Flavio Cobolli and Jakub Mensik defeated Alex de Minaur and Taylor Fritz in the doubles to extend Europe's lead ahead of Zverev's final-day singles. That victory came earlier on the last day and helped set the stage for the decisive singles result.

Carlos Alcaraz produced a result after Zverev's day-two defeat that kept Europe in contention throughout the event. His efforts, combined with the doubles success, maintained Europe's momentum into the final session.

Zverev praised the opposition and his team after the match, saying: "Massive credit to the entire Team World. They pushed us all the way again, they were champions last year. We have a great team chemistry, it was a team effort. "Winning as a team, there's no better feeling in sports. We don't have enough of it in tennis."

Zverev has played on every one of Team Europe's six Laver Cup-winning sides and holds the event record for most singles wins with eight.

Those two wins on the final day took Europe's points to the 13 required to win the competition, meaning Carlos Alcaraz was not required to play again.
