India’s Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, Shafali Verma and Shree Charani are among the nominees for the ICC Player of the Month award for September, the ICC shortlist announced in Dubai on October 6, 2026. Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza and Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu also feature on the men’s and women’s lists respectively.

The nominations span performances across bilateral series, the Asia Cup and the Asian Games. Abhishek amassed 229 runs in four T20Is, while Gill scored 333 runs in two ODIs against the West Indies. The women’s shortlist highlights contributions at the Asia Cup and the Asian Games, with Chamari Athapaththu noted for all-round impact and Shafali Verma identified as a top-order mainstay.

Shubman Gill accumulated 333 runs in the two-match ODI series versus the West Indies, including 110 in the first ODI at Thiruvananthapuram and a 223 off 133 balls in the second, his second ODI double-century; that 223 was the fastest ODI double-century ever and helped India chase 406 with eight wickets in hand and 39 balls to spare. Gill is now in line for his fifth ICC Player of the Month award.

Abhishek Sharma’s September included 229 runs in four T20Is and a 30-ball century against Afghanistan. He had previously won the award in September last year; his century at the Ferozeshah Kotla was 108 off 34 balls, which the ICC report described as the fastest T20I hundred by an India batter, improving on Rohit Sharma’s 35-ball ton against Sri Lanka in 2017.

Shree Charani continued her strong run in international T20Is, finishing September with 18 wickets from seven matches at an economy rate of 3.30. She returned two for 13 in the Asian Games final and, after that performance, attained a career-high 817 rating points — the highest-ever recorded in the ICC women’s T20I bowling rankings; Charani had also been shortlisted for the award in June.

Shafali Verma totalled 360 runs at a strike-rate of 184.61 and finished as the leading run-scorer in India’s Asia Cup campaign. During the same period she also took six wickets, contributed 100 not out against Bangladesh in the Asian Games semi-final and scored 48 in the final against Sri Lanka as India secured the gold medal.

Sikandar Raza was the leading run-scorer in Zimbabwe’s home ODI series against Australia, while Chamari Athapaththu’s place on the women’s shortlist reflects contributions with both bat and ball at the regional events. The nominees were selected on the basis of performances during September.
