Algeria part ways with coach Vladimir Petkovic

Algeria parted company with national team coach Vladimir Petkovic on Monday, August 3, 2026, the Algerian Football Federation said. Petkovic had signed a contract extension before the World Cup, where Algeria reached the last 32.

Petkovic, 62, is Bosnian and took charge of the national side in February 2024. He renewed his deal until 2028 prior to the World Cup. That extension remained in place when Algeria travelled to the finals.

The local soccer governing body said in a statement: "The Algerian Football Federation announce that their contractual relationship with the national team head coach, Mr. Vladimir Petkovic, and his coaching staff has officially come to an end today, on a mutual agreement between the two parties,".

Algeria progressed to the round of 32 at the 48-team World Cup in North America. They advanced as one of the best eight third-placed teams. Their run in the tournament ended with a 2-0 defeat by Switzerland.

Algeria will begin qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations in September. They have been drawn in Group I alongside Zambia, Togo and Burundi.
