Asian Games 2026 Day 12: India start with archery, taekwondo and shooting medal events on October 1

India begin Day 12 of the Asian Games 2026 on October 1 with medal events in archery, taekwondo and shooting scheduled early in the day.
India moved up to eighth in the overall standings after registering four gold medals on Wednesday and taking their tally to 60 medals at the close of Day 11. Archery provided a major boost, with Indian compound archers winning three consecutive golds and defending the men’s, women’s and mixed team titles they held from the 2022 edition.
The Indian mixed compound pairing of Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav secured a quota place for LA 2028, and Chikitha will compete in the women’s individual compound quarter-finals while Ganesh Thirumuru contests the men’s individual compound event.
Anish Bhanwala is the sole Indian shooter in action on the final day of shooting in Aichi-Nagoya and is entered in the 25m rapid fire pistol event.
Following Sunil Kumar’s bronze in Greco-Roman on the previous day, three more Indian wrestlers will compete in Greco-Roman on Day 12, with wrestling featuring up to four Indians in action. India also begin campaigns in judo, taekwondo and rugby sevens on the same day.
Several team events carry medal implications: the men’s hockey team, defending champions, face Pakistan in a semi-final that could guarantee a podium place; the men’s volleyball side meets Pakistan for a spot in the semi-finals; the men’s squash team play Malaysia and the women face Hong Kong in semi-finals, with both squash sides already assured of medals; and the Indian men’s cricket team meet Sri Lanka in a semi-final, with India the reigning gold medallists.
India will contest at least seven medal events on Thursday, including the hockey and cricket semi-finals, with the day set to begin at 5:30 am with archery and taekwondo medal sessions followed by shooting.
