India begins Day 9 of the Asian Games 2026 on Monday (September 28) after a productive Day 8 that added further medals to the contingent’s haul.

Through the first eight days India has secured 32 medals in total — 4 golds, 14 silvers and 14 bronzes. Shooting leads the medal count with 11 podium finishes and athletics accounts for eight of the medals. Kabaddi has provided two golds and ranks as the third most successful campaign for India so far. Women’s cricket, weightlifting, wushu, badminton, mixed martial arts, rowing, soft tennis, squash and table tennis have each delivered one medal.

Shooting’s 11 medals comprise 1 gold, 6 silvers and 4 bronzes. This detailed breakdown records shooting as the sport with the largest contribution to India’s medal tally at the Games.

Athletics and shooting are the two disciplines on Day 9 that present multiple medal opportunities for India. In addition to those events, Indian athletes and teams will compete on Monday in archery, boxing, kurash, men’s cricket, hockey, sepak takraw, squash, surfing and volleyball.

Women’s cricket, shooting and kabaddi (men’s and women’s) have been the sports to deliver India’s gold medals at this Asiad so far. On Monday, September 28, the Indian contingent will aim to build on the 32-medal total across the listed events as the Asian Games move into their ninth day.
