Aston Villa agree deal to sign West Ham defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign West Ham defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka and the DR Congo right-back has been given permission to travel to the Midlands for a medical, in a report published on 18 August 2026.
Wan-Bissaka, 28, has previously played for Manchester United and Crystal Palace. The 28-year-old missed West Ham's first two matches of the season while negotiations were ongoing. West Ham had earlier asked interested clubs to pay a £25m fee and the exact terms of the Villa agreement have not been disclosed.
The move is structured as an initial loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season. The club has allowed Wan-Bissaka to travel for a medical in the Midlands ahead of that arrangement.
West Ham have been active in this transfer window, selling Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham for £85m and Crysencio Summerville for £60m, while captain Jarrod Bowen has signed a new contract.
Aston Villa have also been busy in the market, selling Morgan Rogers to Chelsea for £117m. After sales are taken into account they currently have the lowest net spend in the Premier League, at about £110m.
Villa's incoming signings this summer include midfielders Johan Manzambi and Joao Gomes, Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho on a loan deal with an obligation to buy, and young centre-back Modou Keba Cisse.
The transfer comes as Villa prepare to begin their Premier League campaign at Brighton on Sunday (14:00 BST) and to participate in the Champions League after finishing fourth and winning the Europa League under Unai Emery last season.
