On October 31, 2026 the Men’s Selection Committee moved Jammu and Kashmir pacer Auqib Nabi into India’s squad for the first three ODIs against New Zealand and confirmed he will remain with the team for the full five-match series.

Nabi had originally been named only for the fourth and fifth ODIs but was promoted after Prasidh Krishna was ruled out of the series with a hamstring injury. Prasidh sustained the problem during the second ODI against the West Indies in Guwahati, where he returned figures of one wicket for 45 runs in five overs before leaving the field. The 30-year-old had been included in India’s ODI squad subject to fitness, but the team management has opted not to have him travel for the 50-over assignments to prioritise his recovery for the upcoming Test series.

Nabi emerged as a candidate following strong showings for India A in the red-ball series against New Zealand A, notably a three-wicket burst in the first unofficial Test at Lincoln. His seam movement in that fixture drew the attention of touring selectors Pragyan Ojha and Ajay Ratra, prompting his elevation into the main squad.

India’s updated squad for the first three ODIs reads: Shubman Gill (captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (vice-captain), KL Rahul (wicketkeeper), Axar Patel, Naman Dhir, Anshul Kamboj, Gurnoor Brar, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Arshdeep Singh, Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Nitish Kumar Reddy (first ODI only) and Auqib Nabi.

The squad named for the final two matches of the series will be led by Shreyas Iyer, with Tilak Varma and Kumar Kushagra among the players included for that leg.

Prasidh’s absence is being managed with an eye on the Test schedule; he was a prominent part of India’s drawn series in England, finishing with 32 wickets in nine Tests and contributing in the final match at The Oval. India enter the ODI series with a relatively inexperienced pace group—Arshdeep Singh, Anshul Kamboj and Auqib Nabi have limited international exposure—while Mohammed Siraj is the only frontline pacer in the squad with more than 50 ODI appearances; Jasprit Bumrah has been rested from the series to focus on the Tests.

The five-match ODI series against New Zealand begins on November 4.
