Chennaiyin FC will face Kerala Blasters FC at the Marina Arena in an Indian Super League 2026-27 fixture scheduled for 17:00 IST on October 31, 2026. The match has been previewed around three individual player match-ups identified as likely to influence the outcome.

Chennaiyin began the 2026-27 ISL season winless in their opening three games, mirroring their start to the 2025-26 campaign when they recorded one draw and two losses. This term they have been beaten by Bengaluru FC and Mohun Bagan SG and drew with FC Goa in their opening game. In 2025-26 Chennaiyin registered their first win of that season against Kerala Blasters in their fourth game. The clubs’ rivalry stretches back to a 2014 semi-final and is intensified by geographic proximity between the fan bases; Kerala Blasters had never won at the Marina Arena before their last visit in 2025, when they registered a 3-1 victory. Coming into the game, Kerala Blasters are in a much better position in the table, with four points from three games. They defeated Inter Kashi and drew against Mumbai City FC, with a 4-1 loss to NorthEast United in Guwahati sandwiched between the two results. Ashley Westwood’s side started their pre-season preparations very late and are yet to reach full match fitness, which has contributed to their struggles to win games consistently.

One highlighted duel centres on Mohammed Sanan and Chennaiyin right-back Namgyal Bhutia. Sanan made his first start of the season against Mumbai City FC, creating four key chances, completing three dribbles, delivering a few dangerous crosses and recording a shot on target while nearly scoring with a diving header that missed by a few inches. He is expected to start after Green failed to impress on the left wing following a substitute appearance. Bhutia has been a consistent presence on Chennaiyin’s right side, active up and down the flank and winning numerous duels and recoveries, but has struggled to close down opponents in key moments; he failed to close down Borja Martínez for the first goal against Bengaluru FC, a sequence that led to Ryan Williams scoring, and also allowed Liston Colaco to cross for Manvir Singh in the goal conceded to Mohun Bagan SG.

The central midfield contest to watch pairs Madih Talal with Kerala Blasters’ Freddy. Talal began the season with a substitute appearance against FC Goa while building match fitness, then started versus Bengaluru FC and Mohun Bagan SG and improved across those appearances. Against Mohun Bagan SG he created one big chance, played six key passes and consistently set up Brison Fernandes, Irfan Yadwad and Ramon Tanque, recording 91% passing accuracy in the opposition half. Freddy has started and played the full 90 minutes in all three of Kerala Blasters’ games this season, producing interceptions, clearances and ball recoveries but averaging less than 50% success in ground duels and allowing opponents to dribble past him too easily—weaknesses Madih Talal will look to exploit if they persist.

A third focus is the battle between Irfan Yadwad and Naocha Singh on the wings. Irfan, who has scored Chennaiyin’s only goal this season, has mainly featured on the right, produced a thunderous strike against FC Goa and showed improved output against Bengaluru FC by winning fouls and delivering crosses. Versus Mohun Bagan SG he made several runs behind the defence and combined well with Ramon Tanque and Madih Talal, also making inward runs when the Brazilian striker drifted wide. Naocha Singh made his first start under Ashley Westwood in the previous game against Mumbai City FC and completed a solid outing with several recoveries, won ground duels and produced crucial tackles, setting up a physical duel with Irfan; and never rule Irfan Yadwad out in a Chennaiyin FC home game. He brings an immense amount of work rate and impact in front of the home crowd.

Chennaiyin FC suffered a 1-0 loss to Mohun Bagan SG in their most recent game in the 2026/27 ISL. Kerala Blasters FC played a goalless draw against Mumbai City FC in their most recent game in the 2026/27 ISL.
