China topped the medal table and India finished fourth at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya on the final day of competition on Sunday. The last day featured equestrian jumping at Equestrian Park, where Gulf riders dominated the individual finals.

In Competition A (heights of 1.40-1.50m), Qatar’s Faleh Alajami won gold on Qapella after a clear second round, with UAE’s Abdulla Almheiri taking silver on Hudson de Vains and Saudi Arabia’s Khaled Abdulrahman S Almobty claiming bronze on Diana du Plevau Z; all three completed the second round with zero penalties, leaving a jump-off to decide the medals. Behind them, Humaid Almheiri of the UAE finished fourth, Chen Hung-Shen of Chinese Taipei was fifth and Malaysia’s Shoorendran Nageswaran placed sixth.

Saudi Arabia took the top two spots in Competition B (heights of up to 1.55m), with Ramzy Hamad A Alduhami winning gold on Untouchable 32 and Abdulrahman Bader M Alrajhi earning silver on Lorenzo ES, while Qatar’s Basem Mohammed secured bronze on Chaccball after another clear round. Japan’s Eiken Sato finished fourth on Chadellano and Kuwait’s Ali Alkharafi was fifth on Inshallah, each recording a penalty point.

India closed the Games with 85 medals — 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze — finishing fourth in the final standings, well short of the 107 medals and 28 golds they won at the Hangzhou Games three years earlier. Midway through the event India had slipped to 12th after winning seven medals without a gold on Day 9, but their late resurgence included five gold medals on October 3 across wrestling, golf, cricket, archery and men’s hockey. In the closing stages, archery, wrestling and boxing contributed significantly to India’s medal haul.

China finished atop the table with 169 gold, 89 silver and 83 bronze for a total of 341 medals. Hosts Japan placed second with 83 gold and 269 total medals and recorded the most silver medals with 95, while South Korea finished third with 39 golds and 150 medals. Uzbekistan also won 21 golds but was placed fifth behind India on the basis of India’s superior silver-medal tally; Iran and Thailand finished sixth and seventh respectively with 52 medals each. Kazakhstan ended eighth with 12 golds and a total of 84 medals, one fewer than India, and Hong Kong and Bahrain rounded out the top ten with 11 golds apiece.

With the last medals awarded, the sporting programme for the 20th Asian Games in Japan is complete and the Games will move to the closing ceremony later on Sunday, which will formally close the Aichi-Nagoya Games.
