CM Punk to return on October 9 SmackDown as Fatal Influence defend women's tag titles at Cajundome
WWE confirmed that CM Punk will return on the October 9, 2026 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, which will air live from the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana, and the show will feature Fatal Influence (Lainey Reid & Fallon Henley) defending the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship against Charlotte Flair and Tatum Paxley. The announcement followed the October 2 SmackDown broadcast, which produced the final qualifiers for the Money In The Bank ladder matches.
The October 2 episode delivered several notable outcomes: Kevin Owens clinched the final spot in the Men’s Money In The Bank Ladder match and Tiffany Stratton qualified for the Women’s Money In The Bank Ladder match. Randy Orton’s interference affected Cody Rhodes’s chances in a qualifier match. In a separate contest, Blake Monroe defeated Giulia in her main roster in-ring debut.
A backstage segment on SmackDown set up next week’s tag title match when Charlotte Flair and Tatum Paxley, joined by Alexa Bliss, said they had spoken with General Manager Nick Aldis. Aldis granted them a WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match against Fatal Influence for the October 9 show. The pairing of Flair and Paxley previously faced Fatal Influence in September and came up short in that encounter.
In the Women’s division, Nikki Bella received a direct challenge from Paige, who the show described as the former Diva’s Champion and said had unfinished business with Bella. SmackDown announced the Nikki Bella vs Paige match will take place in Sacramento on October 16. The segment framed the bout as a settled challenge leading to that confirmed date and location.
SmackDown advertised CM Punk’s appearance for the October 9 episode and noted Punk had qualified for the Money In The Bank ladder match by defeating Gunther and Finn Balor. The show stated, "So it is unlikely that the Cookie Master will be in action on a night before edition." Following Kevin Owens’s win over Cody Rhodes and Johnny Gargano, Owens will join Bron Breakker, Je’Von Evans, Trick Williams, Penta, and CM Punk in the 2026 Men’s Money in the Bank ladder match main event.
The program also listed the participants for the Women’s Money In The Bank Ladder match as Roxanne Perez, Lash Legend, Jacy Jayne, Lola Vice, Tiffany Stratton, and Sol Ruca. Separately, a six-man tag match has been advertised for the live event: Seth Rollins, LA Knight, and Solo Sikoa versus 946 (Royce Keys, Bronco Nima & Lucien Price), with the show noting that will be a dark match and not part of the broadcast. CM Punk, Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes, Tiffany Stratton, Jade Cargill, and Gunther are named among the featured superstars for the Cajundome show.
Paige’s challenge to Nikki Bella is set for Sacramento on October 16, and the October 9 Friday Night SmackDown at the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana will present CM Punk’s return alongside the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match and both the Men’s and Women’s Money In The Bank ladder matches.
