CM Punk vs Kevin Owens set for next week’s SmackDown in Toronto after Boston edition

The August 14 edition of WWE SmackDown at the TD Garden in Boston produced multiple title changes and set up a rematch between Undisputed Champion CM Punk and Kevin Owens for the August 21 SmackDown from Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.

The show addressed interim WWE Women’s Champion Chelsea Green’s injury and whether she will be stripped of the title, and WWE teased a major match for the upcoming Saturday Night’s Main Event. A heated exchange also took place between CM Punk and number one contender Kevin Owens during the broadcast. Promoters advertised further attractions for the following week’s SmackDown in Toronto.

Baron Corbin defeated Carmelo Hayes to retain the United States title on the Boston episode. The result kept the United States Championship with Corbin following the match.

Jacy Jayne of the Fatal Influence defeated Tiffany Stratton to become the new Women’s United States Champion. Jayne’s victory resulted in a title change for the Women’s United States Championship.

The MFTs (Talla & Tama Tonga) defeated Wepa Up (R-Truth & Damian Priest) and The War Raiders (Erik & Ivar) to become the new WWE Tag Team Champions. The three-team contest concluded with The MFTs capturing the WWE Tag Team Championship.

The show closed with a brawl between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton after Orton ambushed Rhodes prior to Rhodes’ scheduled main event clash against Sami Zayn. The confrontation left Rhodes and Orton in a physical altercation to end the broadcast.

Punk and Owens engaged in a fiery war of words that set up a title bout for next week; Punk will defend the Undisputed title for the second time against Owens in his hometown next week. The August 21 edition of Friday Night SmackDown will air live from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Oba Femi is advertised for the August 21 show in Toronto fresh off his SummerSlam victory over Brock Lesnar, and CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, Kevin Owens, Tiffany Stratton, Gunther, and Jade Cargill are listed as featured superstars for next week.
