Complete list of WWE Speed Champions
WWE introduced the Speed Championship on its Speed program, which debuted on April 3, 2024 on Twitter, and Ricochet became the inaugural Speed Champion after defeating Johnny Gargano in the tournament final taped April 26, 2024. The title began as an internet championship defended on episodes of Speed before being formalised with an inaugural Speed tournament held between April and May 2024.
The Speed programme was produced as dark matches prior to WWE’s weekly shows and was broadcast every Wednesday on Twitter. The Speed Championship was initially available only to male wrestlers across all three brands in the promotion. Weeks after the show debuted, WWE announced the creation of the Speed title and an eight-man tournament to crown the first champion.
The first Speed Tournament featured Ricochet, Dragon Lee, JD McDonagh, Axiom, Bronson Reed, Cedric Alexander, Johnny Gargano and Angel Garza. The competition used an elimination format in which winners advanced and losers were immediately eliminated. The tournament ran from April to May 2024, culminating in the April 26 tapings.
At the April 26, 2024 tapings Ricochet defeated Johnny Gargano in the final at 4 minutes 21 seconds to claim the inaugural Speed Championship. Speed matches use a three-minute time limit, while championship matches are held under a five-minute time limit. The Speed match concept incorporated seven distinct in-ring twists for contestants from Raw, SmackDown and NXT.
The championship has witnessed two championship reigns so far. Ricochet is recorded as the oldest champion at 35, and Andrade is recorded as the youngest champion at 34.
On May 1, 2024 WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque revealed that the show would soon include women’s matches, and a formal announcement on August 9, 2024 revealed a tournament for the inaugural WWE Women’s Speed Championship would commence on September 4th. Candice LeRae beat Iyo Sky in the tournament final during the Speed tapings on October 4, 2024 to win the inaugural Women’s Speed Championship, with her reign acknowledged as having begun on October 9, 2024 when the match was shown on tape delay. Similar to the men’s title, the Women’s title has been moved to NXT.
On August 24, 2025, after Speed was canceled, the title was officially shifted to the NXT brand while remaining open to challengers from Raw and SmackDown, along with wrestlers from Evolve, the ID program, TNA, and Mexican sister promotion AAA. The move to NXT applied to the Speed titles following the end of the Speed programme.
Lexis King is the current WWE Speed Champion; he defeated EK Prosper at the 2026 edition of NXT: Revengein a tournament final to win the vacant title. NXT’s Wren Sinclair is the current champion, having beaten previous champion Fallon Henley at the Match 17, 2026 edition of NXT.
