Cristiano Ronaldo was suspended for 30 days and fined 255 euros ($285) by the Portuguese Football Federation after walking out of the national team camp, the federation said on Monday, October 19, 2026, calling the punishment "adequate and sufficient." The suspension was imposed provisionally by the federation and Ronaldo has the right to appeal the sanction.

The federation said Ronaldo fully admitted the facts underlying the charges through a formal statement submitted on Friday and that his admission, together with a clean disciplinary record, led to a reduced penalty. The fine of 255 euros was the maximum the federation could impose once mitigating circumstances were taken into account.

Ronaldo had featured in Portugal’s recent Nations League campaign, playing in the opening win over Wales and being an unused substitute in the 27 September victory in Norway. The federation’s disciplinary action relates specifically to his decision to leave the national camp after disputes over playing time.

According to the federation, Ronaldo accused coach Jorge Jesus of breaking an agreement to play him and then walked out of the Portugal camp. Without him in subsequent matches, Portugal secured wins that contributed to their progress in the Nations League.

The suspension was backdated to 1 October, the day of the Denmark game, meaning Ronaldo had already served 19 days of the 30-day ban by the time the federation announced the punishment on October 19. The federation reiterated the disciplinary timeline in its statement accompanying the sanction.

Ronaldo had issued an apology and said he expected to be punished, the federation noted, and he had not immediately issued a public reaction to news of the suspension. The federation described the overall sanction as "adequate and sufficient."

With 11 days of the suspension remaining, Ronaldo is expected to be available for Portugal's next Nations League fixture on 14 November against Denmark.
