David Raum linked with Manchester United amid summer transfer interest

RB Leipzig captain David Raum has been linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer transfer window, according to a TEAMtalk report published on August 11, 2026. The 28-year-old left-back is among the players United are examining as they pursue defensive reinforcements.
With a deal for Newcastle full-back Lewis Hall described as increasingly unlikely, Manchester United have begun looking at alternative targets to strengthen their defence. The report states Raum has previously held discussions with United and is reportedly keen on a move to Old Trafford, a scenario the story described as one that could benefit all parties.
Born in Nuremberg, Raum began his youth career with a local club before joining Greuther Fürth’s academy at the age of eight. He made his senior debut in 2016 and recorded 20 appearances the following season, establishing himself in the second division. Over five seasons with Fürth he accumulated 94 league appearances and was part of the side that achieved promotion to the Bundesliga at the end of the 2020-21 campaign.
With his contract at Fürth expiring, Raum signed for Hoffenheim and made 32 appearances in his single season at Die Kraichgauer. RB Leipzig then acquired him for €26.00m on a five-year contract. At Leipzig he has made 111 league appearances and scored six goals, and he was named the club’s captain at the start of last season.
Raum’s international progression began with Germany’s youth teams and continued with a senior debut in September 2021, when he played in a FIFA World Cup qualifier against Armenia. He featured in all three group matches for Germany at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and also participated at Euro 2024. He was selected for Germany’s 2026 World Cup squad and appeared twice during that tournament.
To date Raum has earned 39 caps for Germany and has one senior international goal, scored in a World Cup qualifier against Liechtenstein in October 2025. The report notes he is 28 years old and plays principally as a left-back for club and country.
TEAMtalk reported Raum’s RB Leipzig contract contains a £34 million release clause and that he has less than 12 months remaining on his deal. According to the same account, Manchester United will seek to enter negotiations with Leipzig to try to lower the valuation toward roughly £30 million.
