Katia and Elma Aveiro have denied reports that their brother Cristiano Ronaldo planned to marry Georgina Rodriguez at a cathedral in Funchal, Madeira, on August 8, and said the rumours were unfounded after being contacted by a Portuguese television reporter.

Several media outlets last week claimed the Al-Nassr forward and his partner intended to marry in Madeira, with the ceremony reportedly due to take place in a Funchal church; The Sun said the 41-year-old player and the 32-year-old model were planning a Saturday afternoon wedding followed by a VIP reception at the five-star Savoy Palace hotel. Adriano Silva, a Portuguese television reporter, phoned Katia and Elma Aveiro to verify the speculation and both sisters refuted the claims.

The rumours triggered a large crowd on August 8, when thousands of fans and members of the media gathered outside the Funchal church hoping to witness the reported ceremony; instead, another couple was being married at the site that day.

Speaking about his aims before the World Cup, Cristiano Ronaldo told journalist Piers Morgan that his goal was to win the trophy and that he hoped to marry after the tournament; following Portugal’s elimination by Spain, local media reported that any wedding arrangements had been postponed.

Ronaldo has said he proposed to Rodriguez in August of last year, and Rodriguez is described in reports as an Argentine-Spanish model and influencer with whom he is in a long-term relationship.

With the wedding rumours denied by his sisters, Ronaldo is expected to return to training for Al-Nassr as he looks to clinch another title with the Saudi team.
