Tushar Deshpande (4/57) and Tanush Kotian (4/72) claimed four wickets apiece as West Zone bowled North Zone out for 251 on day one of the Duleep Trophy at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru on Sunday, August 23, 2026. West Zone finished the day on 31 for 2 in 10 overs.

North Zone, having won the toss and elected to bat, lost openers Yash Dhull and Qamran Iqbal with the score at 45. Ayush Badoni made 51 off 57 balls (6x4, 2x6) and Ayush Doseja 42 off 110 balls (4x4), the pair adding 72 runs before a middle-order collapse saw the side slide from 117 for 2 to 161 for 7.

Deshpande used pace to good effect, finishing with figures of four for 57; he had Badoni caught behind and then bowled Abdul Samad through the gate. Kotian, returning four for 72, dismissed Doseja caught at silly point and trapped captain Kanhaiya Wadhawan leg-before on the back foot, and also completed two outstanding high catches — one running in from fine leg to remove Abid Mushtaq and another off his own bowling to account for Arshdeep Singh.

Anshul Kamboj top-scored for North with 60 off 52 balls (5x4, 5x6), bringing up his half-century with a six over mid-wicket off Kotian. On the adjacent ground, 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was out for eight while opening for East Zone, his dismissal coming when pacer Bishworjit Konthoujam had him caught at gully.

East Zone amassed 355 for 6 in 80 overs in their match against North East Zone, with Sudip Gharami making 146 off 185 balls (25x4, 1x6) and Shahbaz Ahmed unbeaten on 100 off 137 balls (9x4, 2x6); Kumar Kushagra contributed 55 off 65 balls (9x4). Those three partnerships steadied East after an early loss of two wickets for 25.

The scores: North Zone 251 in 66.5 overs (Ayush Doseja 42, Ayush Badoni 51, Anshul Kamboj 60, Tanush Kotian 4/72, Tushar Deshpande 4/57) vs. West Zone 31/2 in 10 overs; Toss: North. East Zone 355/6 in 80 overs (Kumar Kushagra 55, Sudip Gharami 146, Shahbaz Ahmed 100 batting) vs. North East Zone; Toss: North East.

At the close of play, West Zone were 31 for 2 in 10 overs while East Zone had finished on 355 for 6 in their fixture.
