Gustavo Hamer returns to Coventry City on 'long-term' contract

Gustavo Hamer has rejoined Coventry City from Sheffield United on a "long-term" contract for an undisclosed fee, the club announced on 11 August 2026. The transfer brings the 29-year-old back to the Sky Blues.

Hamer spent three years with Coventry before moving to Sheffield United in 2023. In his first spell at the club he scored 19 goals in 132 appearances and was named Coventry's player of the year in 2021-22. He left after establishing himself as a regular in the Coventry midfield.

Hamer said: "To go to the Premier League with Coventry was something I always dreamt of so when the club came back in for me, it was very special so I'm very happy," Hamer said. "The love I got from the fans was amazing so the only thing I can give back to them is goals, assists and a good performance so that's what I will try to do. "Of course, you can't score or give an assist every game but what I can do is give 100% for the badge, for the club and for the fans."

He played in the Premier League with the Blades in 2023-24 and registered 22 goals and 29 assists in 123 games in all competitions for the Yorkshire club. Those figures cover his appearances for Sheffield United across competitions.

Before moving to England, Hamer was a Netherlands youth international and appeared in the Eredivisie for Feyenoord and PEC Zwolle. Those earlier spells preceded his initial arrival at Coventry.
