India name 11-member boxing squad for Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games; campaign starts Sept 21
India have named an eleven-member boxing squad for the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, with their campaign beginning on September 21 and finals scheduled for October 2.
The boxing team arrives fresh from the Commonwealth Games 2026, where India won ten medals, seven of them gold. Several members of the Aichi-Nagoya squad medalled at the Commonwealth Games. Lovlina Borgohain, an Olympic medallist, will lead the group into the Asian Games.
The eleven-member delegation comprises five women and six men under Borgohain’s leadership. Women: Sakshi Chaudhary (51kg), Preeti Pawar (54kg), Priya Ghanghas (60kg), Parveen Hooda (65kg), Lovlina Borgohain (75kg). Men: Jadumani Singh (55kg), Sachin Siwach (60kg), Sumit Kundu (70kg), Ankush (80kg), Kapil Pokhariya (90kg), Narender Berwal (+90kg).
At the Commonwealth Games, Sachin Siwach, Preeti Pawar, Sakshi Chaudhary, Ankush Panghal and Priya Ghanghas won gold. Lovlina Borgohain, Jadumani Singh and Narendar Berwal secured silver. India’s last Asian Games boxing outing brought home a handful of medals.
The Boxing Federation of India has introduced a selection policy tying performance in Aichi-Nagoya to subsequent opportunities. Any boxer who wins a medal at these Games will earn a fast-tracked spot at the World Boxing Championships 2027 in Kazakhstan, described in the federation notice as the first qualifying event for LA 2028. Boxers who do not win a medal will be required to progress via national trials and additional qualifying tournaments in China, Italy, and Hungary over the next two years.
Boxing at the Asian Games 2026 will stream online in India on the SonyLIV app and website, with television coverage on the Sony Sports Network channels. India’s competition opens on September 21 with the men’s 70kg round of 32 and the national team will be competing through to the finals on October 2.
