India's gold-medal events at the 2026 Asian Games
As of September 25, India has won two gold medals at the 2026 Asian Games being held in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan, which run from September 19 to October 4. The two golds came in the women’s cricket final and the mixed 10m air pistol team event.
This edition marks India’s 20th consecutive appearance at the Asian Games since the country first competed in New Delhi in 1951. India has sent a contingent of 495 athletes to compete across 36 sports. Manu Bhaker and Pawan Sehrawat were the nation’s flag-bearers at the opening ceremony, with Sehrawat replacing Tajinderpal Singh Toor after Toor’s kit arrived late. India’s benchmark from the previous Games remains Hangzhou 2022, where the country finished fourth with 106 medals—28 gold, 38 silver and 40 bronze.
By September 25 India’s overall medal haul stood at 23: two gold, nine silver and 12 bronze. The tally covers competitions concluded up to that date and will change as remaining events are completed before the Games end on October 4.
India’s first gold in Aichi-Nagoya arrived in women’s cricket at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin on September 22, when Harmanpreet Kaur’s side beat Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the final. India posted 216-3, with Smriti Mandhana scoring 79 off 45 balls, and the bowlers then dismissed Sri Lanka for 69 to secure the title and successfully defend the Hangzhou 2022 gold.
The second gold was secured on September 25 in shooting, where Kamaljeet and Suruchi Singh won the mixed 10m air pistol team final. The pair set an Asian record in qualification and then beat South Korea in the gold-medal match to take top honours.
Shooting is the largest contributor to India’s medal count at these Games, providing one gold, six silver and four bronze medals for a total of 11 shooting medals. Athletics has produced five medals for India so far, comprising two silver and three bronze medals.
Several medal events remain on India’s schedule, including men’s cricket, kabaddi, hockey, badminton and multiple athletics finals, offering more opportunities to add to the current haul. So, India’s gold medal count is expected to go up further, with the Asian Games concluding on October 4.
