India seek 11th straight T20I win against West Indies in Ranchi

India will attempt to extend a 10-match T20I winning run when they meet the West Indies in the second T20I at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi on Friday (October 9, 2026). The Men in Blue need one more completed victory to take the run to 11.
India’s last defeat in the format came on July 11, 2026 against England in Southampton, and the subsequent 10-game unbeaten sequence has largely come against modest opposition: three matches each versus Zimbabwe and Afghanistan, one against Japan, one each versus second-string Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the Asian Games, and the series opener against the West Indies. India received a clear warning of the visitors’ batting depth on Tuesday (October 6), even though the Lucknow fixture was described as a walk in the park for the hosts.
In Lucknow, India won the toss, introduced spin in the fourth over and benefited from skipper Shreyas Iyer’s century; Shreyas had reached his half-century when India required just 65 runs. The spin trio of Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Naman Dhir shared the wickets, accounting for seven West Indies batters in the opening contest.
The West Indies rallied to 171 after being 135 for eight, underlining their power-hitting, but their bowling was judged monotonous by the report, with all-rounders Romario Shepherd, Matthew Forde and Shamar Springer offering right-arm medium pace that posed little threat. Bowling figures from the first T20I showed Akeal Hosein was the only West Indian to go at under 10 an over, while Mayank Yadav was the only Indian to record a double-digit economy rate.
Selection questions persist ahead of the second game, particularly over Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s inclusion. Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak said, "The team has not been decided yet, so I don’t know. The chances are there for everyone in the 15," and Sanju Samson is expected to keep his place in the playing XI, a status helped by India’s run of wins.
The second T20I in Ranchi starts at 7 p.m.; a victory for India would extend their streak to 11 completed T20I wins.
