India U-19 beat Australia U-19 by an innings and 48 runs in first Youth Test at Niranjan Shah Stadium
India under-19 captain Yashbardhan Singh Chauhan took six wickets as India defeated Australia under-19 by an innings and 48 runs in the first Youth Test at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on Tuesday. Left-arm spinner Ishan Om also produced a match-defining spell, finishing with four for 62 in Australia’s second innings.
India amassed 494 in their only innings, propelled by Lakshya Raichandani’s 240 (281b, 24x4, 4x6) and a ninth-wicket stand of 180 between Raichandani and Mohit Ulva, who made 92 (84b, 10x4, 4x6). Yashbardhan contributed 54 with the bat, helping India take a 277-run lead, and Lakshya receives the Player-of-the-Match award from Australia u-19 coach Nielsen.
Australia’s second innings collapsed under pressure from the Indian spin attack as wickets fell in clusters with the temperature rising; off-spinner Yashbardhan finished with six for 75 and Ishan took four for 62. The visitors were dismissed for 229, barely an hour after tea on the third day.
Blake Cattle top-scored for Australia in the second innings with a battling 123 (114b, 16x4, 4x6), having already scored a century in the first innings; he became the eighth batter to register centuries in both innings of a Youth Test. Cattle launched occasional counter-attacks before being dismissed by Yashbardhan.
Neel Patel provided mid-innings resistance with 41 off 78 balls (6x4) after Australia slipped to 17 for three, but he was bowled by Yashbardhan. Ishan, who had claimed a five-for in the first innings, again supplied important breakthroughs in the second.
The official scoreline read: Australia u-19 217 & 229 in 59.4 overs (Neel Patel 41, Blake Cattle 123, Ishan Om 4/62, Yashbardhan Chauhan 6/75) lost to India u-19 494 in 102.3 overs (Lakshya Raichandani 240, Yashbardhan 54, Mohit Ulva 92, Kasey Barton 3/83).
Australia’s second innings ended just over an hour after tea on the third day, sealing India’s innings-and-48-run victory in the first Youth Test.
