India unchanged, put West Indies in to bat in 4th T20I as Hope sets the early tone
India named an unchanged XI and elected to field, putting West Indies in to bat in the fourth T20I in Hyderabad on 2026-10-14, with Shai Hope leading the West Indies batting charge.
India’s playing XI was Sanju Samson (WK), Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer (C), Tilak Varma, Naman Dhir, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Prince Yadav and Mayank Yadav; West Indies named Shai Hope (C/WK), Jewel Andrew (in for Kamil Pooran), Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd (in for Quentin Sampson), Keemo Paul, Shamar Springer, Roston Chase, Gudakesh Motie and Shamar Joseph. The on-field umpires, Virender Sharma and Nitin Menon, wore black armbands in memory of Sarah Dambanevana. Ian Bishop on air noted this was West Indies’ eighth opening pair in this format this year.
Mayank Yadav took the new ball for India, clocking 144.4 kph as Shai Hope got off the mark with a single to fine leg; the West Indies were 40/0 after three overs. Hope and 19-year-old opener Jewel Andrew provided a brisk start against the Indian pace battery in the Powerplay.
Mayank’s spell contained a chaotic sequence that included a No Ball, a Free Hit and five wides before a legal delivery was bowled, with the commentary noting, "Already 6 off the over, and we haven't had a legal ball yet." Extras and short deliveries contributed to the growing run rate early on.
Shai Hope struck big during the Powerplay, clearing the ropes off both Axar Patel and Mayank Yadav, and Prince Yadav’s fuller delivery that went for four helped the visitors reach 50 in just 3.3 overs. Shimron Hetmyer also found the boundary with a well-timed pull off Arshdeep Singh.
Jewel Andrew combined aggression with effectiveness at the top, racing into the contest with a six off Arshdeep and several boundaries; an Arshdeep over produced 17 runs. That opening partnership was broken by Axar Patel, who trapped Andrew LBW; the third umpire review showed no UltraEdge and Ball Tracking returned three reds, and the 52-run opening stand was ended.
Naman Dhir produced a notable piece of fielding when he parried a hard-hit stroke from Hope to mid-off for a single, and he discussed his development after the previous game, saying he wants to be an all-rounder and that, "despite being 2-1 up, they will play with the same intensity." Dhir also mentioned he had been in regular conversation with Gautam Gambhir and the other coaches on finer points of bowling.
Axar Patel’s LBW removed Jewel Andrew and India turned to Arshdeep Singh to complete the Powerplay; Arshdeep Singh (1-0-17-0) was back on to bowl the remaining over(s) of the Powerplay as the fourth T20I in Hyderabad continued.
