Infantino pledges larger distribution from Fifa's £4.4bn reserves

Gianni Infantino told the six continental confederations in a letter seen by BBC Sport on Monday that he would consider distributing a larger share of Fifa's estimated £4.4bn cash reserves to member associations.

Infantino, who was first elected as Fifa president in 2016, has faced growing pressure over his aborted Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE) plan, which proposed selling stakes in the World Cup and other competitions to private investors and provoked a backlash that included calls for his resignation.

Uefa and Concacaf have demanded that Fifa pay $10m (£7.5m) to each of the 211 member associations from the governing body's reserves.

In the letter, Infantino wrote he would support "the greatest level of additional funding that can responsibly be delivered" and added, "I will not prejudge the amount," followed by, "A single figure can begin the discussion, but it cannot complete a global policy."

Infantino issued a defence of the withdrawn commercial proposal to sell a slice of World Cup commercial rights, writing: "The recent commercial proposal, now withdrawn, was intended to enable Fifa to invest more in football," wrote the Swiss-Italian.

Earlier this month Football Association chair Debbie Hewitt, a Fifa vice-president, asked Infantino to release all documents relating to the controversial plan and called for an independent review of FFE.

The demand for one-off payments from reserves will be formally considered by the Fifa Council when it meets on 15 October.
