Japan Open 2026: Prize money, entries and opening matches
The ATP Japan Open 2026, an ATP 500 tournament at Tokyo’s Ariake Tennis Forest Park, runs from September 30 to October 6 and features defending champion Carlos Alcaraz among the entrants. Alcaraz defeated Taylor Fritz on his tournament debut last year.
The event is billed as the next big stop on the Asian Swing. Taylor Fritz returns to try and settle that score. Also entered are Rafael Jodar, Frances Tiafoe, Lorenzo Musetti and Jiri Lehecka. Ben Shelton was on the entry list but has withdrawn.
The week also carries an emotional element for the home crowd as Kei Nishikori makes his final appearance at the tournament. Nishikori faces Frances Tiafoe in his opening match. Carlos Alcaraz will open his title defence against USA’s Alex Michelsen.
The Japan Open 2026 offers a total prize purse of $2,342,275. That amount represents a 5.2% increase from last year’s $2,226,470. The singles champion will receive $437,955, up from $416,365 in 2025.
