Jeff Bezos and a consortium led by Amit Bhatia are nearing agreement to acquire roughly a one-third stake in Liverpool Football Club, Fenway Sports Group said on August 10, 2026. The proposed investment would value Liverpool at around £4.4 billion ($5.9 billion).

"An investment consortium led, managed, and represented by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club," FSG said in a statement. Sky News reported the group also includes Eduardo Saverin. Amit Bhatia, the son-in-law of Lakshmi Mittal, is leading the consortium and was previously a shareholder in Queens Park Rangers.

According to reporting, the consortium’s involvement could be announced imminently, with the deal potentially revealed as early as this week though the timeline could slip into next week. FSG confirmed it had received an approach from the group, while continuing to be the club’s controlling owner since its 2010 takeover.

Jeff Bezos’s personal wealth was described in the report as estimated at more than $280 billion by Forbes; the article also said he previously explored bids for the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders but did not complete those deals. Eduardo Saverin was named as part of the consortium and was also reported to have been a member of a bid that tried to buy Chelsea in 2022, a move that did not succeed.

The ownership approach would give the new investors a sizeable minority stake while leaving FSG in overall control, according to the report. FSG bought Liverpool from Tom Hicks and George Gillett in 2010 and has retained majority control through subsequent outside investment discussions.

The article noted FSG’s tenure included Liverpool winning the Premier League title in 2020, ending a 30-year wait, and another league title in the 2024-25 season. It also reported recent personnel changes at the club, citing the departures of manager Arne Slot and Mohamed Salah and Michael Edwards leaving his role as FSG’s chief executive of football in July.

If the transaction is completed, the investment would bring Jeff Bezos and Eduardo Saverin into Liverpool’s ownership structure with Amit Bhatia leading the consortium, while Fenway Sports Group would remain the club’s overall controller; the parties were reported to be close to finalising terms with public announcement timing uncertain.
