Justin Greaves ruled out of second ODI against India with calf injury

West Indies opener Justin Greaves has been ruled out of the second One-Day International against India in Guwahati on September 30 after sustaining a calf injury during the opening match at Thiruvananthapuram, Cricket West Indies said. The decision follows the 26-year-old’s century in the first game of the series.

Greaves produced a 108-ball hundred in the first ODI, sharing a 135-run opening stand with John Campbell inside the opening 20 overs at Thiruvananthapuram. His cover drives were prominent during that innings, but he struggled physically through much of his stay at the crease after pulling his calf in the first 10 overs and requiring treatment from the physio.

"Justin Greaves has been ruled out of the second game of the ODI series against India after sustaining a calf injury," Cricket West Indies said in a statement. "Greaves picked up the injury during his innings in the opening match of the series," the statement added.

Greaves was dismissed in the 36th over by Kuldeep Yadav as West Indies posted 295 for 7 in the first ODI. Kuldeep finished with figures of 4/40 and was credited in the report with helping India recover from a difficult start.

India chased the target comfortably, with Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli compiling a 151-run partnership; Gill provided the foundation while Kohli accelerated the innings. The report states India completed the chase in 41.4 overs.

The second match of the three-game series is scheduled for Guwahati on September 30, where West Indies will be without Greaves for the encounter.
