Lammonby century propels Somerset to big One-Day Cup win over Surrey
Tom Lammonby scored a career-best List A 114 as Somerset beat Surrey at Taunton in the One-Day Cup on 7 August 2026, keeping Somerset's hopes of qualifying for the latter stages alive. The opener put on a large partnership with captain Lewis Goldsworthy as Somerset posted a commanding total and rolled Surrey for 180.
Somerset's victory was one of several decisive results across the competition, with Leicestershire maintaining top spot in Group A after edging Warwickshire, Luc Benkenstein's 140 steering Essex to a narrow win over Glamorgan in Cardiff, Middlesex holding the lead in Group B following a tight success against Durham in which England opener Emilio Gay retired hurt, and holders Worcestershire Rapids chasing 334 at Sussex courtesy of an unbeaten century from captain Jake Libby.
At Chesterfield, Northamptonshire made 259-8 with contributions from Luke Proctor (53), Nathan McSweeney (49) and George Bartlett (55), but Nottinghamshire chased the target with six wickets in hand; Freddie McCann scored 91 and Haseeb Hameed added 51 before Kyle Verreynne (39 not out) and Lyndon James (45 not out) finished the job with an unbroken 69-run partnership and more than three overs to spare.
Somerset's innings at Taunton was built on a second-wicket stand of 152 off 141 deliveries between Lammonby (114) and Goldsworthy (83), and further contributions from Archie Vaughan (52) and Kian Roberts (32) pushed the total to 368-9. Surrey's reply collapsed early — Dominic Sibley fell for a two-ball duck and the visitors slipped to 65-4 — and although Ollie Sykes (34) and Josh Blake (47) added 57, Surrey were bowled out for 180, giving Somerset an 188-run victory.
Leicestershire secured a three-wicket victory over Warwickshire at Grace Road after the Bears were reduced to 31-4; Kai Smith made 57 and Vansh Jani 33, Smith and George Garton shared a 68-run stand, Oliver Hannon-Dalby finished with 3-27 for Warwickshire, and Nick Kelly’s 86 guided Leicestershire from 10-3 and 43-4 to the win while defending 220.
At Old Trafford, Gloucestershire were set 271 after Cameron Bancroft fell two short of a century on 98 and Jack Taylor made 75 for 270-6, but Lancashire reached the target in the penultimate over as George Balderson (56 not out) and Arav Shetty (36 not out) closed with an unbroken 90; Matty Hurst had made 48, Josh Bohannon 42 and Keaton Jennings 67 during the chase.
Essex and Glamorgan produced a high-scoring thriller at Sophia Gardens in which more than 600 runs were scored and 17 wickets fell; Luc Benkenstein hit 140 and shared a 166 opening stand with Noah Thain (76) as Essex were eventually bowled out for 312 with 17 deliveries remaining, Shane Snater took 3-49, and Glamorgan were pulled back despite Timm van der Gugten’s unbeaten 118 and Alex Horton’s 85 when Mackenzie Jones restricted them to two from the final over. Middlesex overcame Durham’s 303, a day on which Emilio Gay retired hurt with a shoulder complaint on nine, with Ben Geddes (77) and Joe Cracknell (84) each prominent in a 96-run third-wicket partnership before tail-enders Toby Roland-Jones and Henry Brookes finished the chase with three balls to spare. Yorkshire beat Derbyshire by five wickets at Scarborough after Derbyshire were held to 278-8 with Ben Cliff taking 3-57 and openers Harry Came (58) and Martin Andersson (67) earlier sharing a 140-run stand. At Hove, Sussex posted 333-9 with Fynn Hudson-Prentice scoring 68 from 35 balls and Jack Leaning 50, but Worcestershire Rapids chased the total with captain Jake Libby unbeaten on 109 as they won with 10 balls remaining; Ben Gibbon claimed 3-74 for Sussex and Kashif Ali made 73 in the chase.
