Marc Guehi to have Sunday hip scan after halftime withdrawal at Nottingham Forest

Manchester City centre-back Marc Guehi will undergo a scan on a hip complaint on Sunday after being substituted at half-time of City's loss at Nottingham Forest on Saturday, with the test intended to determine whether he can join England for UEFA Nations League duty this week. The 26-year-old’s availability for the international fixtures is therefore uncertain pending the results.
Guehi moved to Manchester City from Crystal Palace in January. Enzo Maresca said after the match that the centre-back had asked to be taken off because of the problem; Maresca did not specify the nature of the issue. It is understood the hip complaint has troubled Guehi in recent weeks, and his midgame request to be substituted has raised doubts about his immediate availability for England.
The scan is scheduled for Sunday and will form part of the medical information used to decide whether Guehi can report to England’s camp. England’s medical staff are also expected to want to assess him before making a final selection decision.
Thomas Tuchel will be hoping Guehi is passed fit, with the former Crystal Palace captain described as a mainstay of his team since Tuchel’s appointment as England head coach in January 2025. Guehi was a regular in major recent matches for England, starting in all but one of the team’s World Cup games and in all four Nations League fixtures in September and October.
City’s defeat at Nottingham Forest on Saturday interrupted club action for Guehi and precipitated the medical follow-up ahead of the international window. The substitution at half-time prompted the immediate concern that led to the scheduled testing.
England are due to face Croatia at Wembley on Thursday, 12 November, before travelling to Madrid to meet World Cup winners Spain on Saturday, 15 November; the outcome of Guehi’s scan and any subsequent assessments will determine whether he is available for those matches.
