Mathias Olivera and Martin Satriano have been released from Uruguay’s squad and will not face India in the FIFA international friendly at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. The Uruguay national team will still travel for the fixture despite the departures.

La Celeste arrive in Kolkata as heavy favourites after a 4-1 away win over South Korea in their most recent match, in which Darwin Nunez scored twice. Diego Forlan is hoping for a repeat performance against India’s Blue Tigers, but Uruguay have suffered several injuries since their friendlies with Japan and South Korea. Multiple first-team players involved in those matches have returned to their clubs for rehabilitation, reducing the options available to Forlan.

The Uruguayan Football Federation (AUF) confirmed that Napoli centre-back Mathias Olivera has returned to SSC Napoli after suffering a strain to his right external obturator muscle. Olivera reportedly felt discomfort in training, underwent further tests that revealed the problem, and has returned to the club to begin a rehabilitation programme at the SSC Napoli Training Centre. His withdrawal from the squad removes one defensive option Forlan had selected.

In Olivera’s absence, the likely central defensive pairing for Uruguay is Juan Rodriguez alongside Ronald Araujo. The AUF’s announcement framed Rodriguez as the probable replacement at centre-back for the India friendly.

Forward Martin Satriano has been released from the squad because of inflammation in his knee; he did not play in the friendlies against Japan or South Korea. The 25-year-old returned to Getafe for further examinations following the medical assessment by the Uruguayan staff.

Olivera and Satriano are the third and latest first-team players from the original squad to miss the upcoming game. Earlier, influential midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta returned to Flamengo after undergoing surgery for a wrist injury, departures that the AUF says have left Forlan short of options.

The friendly is scheduled for October 6, 2026, with a 7:30 PM IST kick-off at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata; Uruguay will contest the match without Olivera, Satriano and the previously withdrawn de Arrascaeta.
