On 16 October 2026, following India's defeat to West Indies in the series, former India batter Mohammad Kaif criticised Iyer's team selection.
Kaif said the bowling attack was inadequate throughout the series and failed to contain West Indies' batting.
He added that Kuldeep Yadav's omission created an imbalance, with the series level at 2-2 ahead of a deciding match.
