Former India spinner Murali Kartik criticised India’s decision to send 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi at No. 3 in the match against New Zealand, in an article published on October 25, 2026, after the teenager scored four runs.
Kartik said Sooryavanshi should have opened while Sanju Samson handled the middle order.
He also suggested Shivam Dube as an alternative replacement for injured Ishan Kishan if India needed middle-order support.
