Namibia secures maiden bilateral ODI series victory over Ireland, wins decider in Windhoek

Namibia defeated Ireland by five wickets in the series decider in Windhoek on November 1, 2026, securing their first-ever bilateral ODI series victory against a Full Member nation. The result completed a 3-2 triumph for Namibia in the five-match ODI series.
The deciding match was played on home soil in Windhoek and the series outcome is being seen as a timely boost for Namibia's preparations ahead of next year's ICC Men's Cricket World Cup. Namibia will co-host that tournament alongside South Africa and Zimbabwe. The five-match series provided the hosts with competitive match practice in the lead-up to the event.
Pace bowlers J.J. Smith and Jack Brassell led Namibia's attack, sharing seven wickets between them as Ireland were bowled out for 129. Smith produced an economical return of 4/20 in nine overs in the series decider and was adjudged Player of the Match for that performance.
In reply, opener Louren Steenkamp top-scored in the chase with 42, while captain Gerhard Erasmus added 30 to steer Namibia to a five-wicket win. The pair provided the platform required to reach the target and close out the series on home turf.
Erasmus was named Player of the Series after scoring 263 runs and taking four wickets across the five matches, finishing as Namibia's leading all-round contributor during the contest. His returns over the series were cited by Namibia as central to their historic win.
Ireland struggled through their innings, with only four batters reaching double figures. Captain Lorcan Tucker said: "Obviously, it was a disappointing day for us. We came here today excited about the opportunities with the series on the line, but I don't think we quite rocked up from a skills perspective. We have learned a lot, but I think we've a lot to reflect on going forward. Credit to Namibia, they played diligent cricket and did that for longer periods of time than us — that's why they won the series today," Tucker said as per the ICC website.
Ireland have already booked their place at next year's ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Qualifier courtesy of their spot on the ICC Men's ODI Team Rankings, while Namibia will likely have to earn their position via the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off.
