Pant ready for ups and downs as he leads Rest of India in Irani Cup

Rishabh Pant will captain Rest of India in the Irani Cup match against Jammu & Kashmir from Thursday at the Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar. During a net session ahead of the game he was still batting at the farthest net more than 30 minutes after he had begun while teammates and the net bowlers had dispersed.

The 28-year-old is currently focused on this format and is not part of India's ODI and T20I squads. That situation leaves his next international assignment some time away; India plays two Tests against New Zealand in the second half of November. He addressed his outlook in a pre-match interaction. Pant said he accepted the fluctuations that come with a long career. “There will be ups and downs. When you want to have an international career for 15-20 years, you have to go through these things. So, it’s that kind of mindset,” he said at the pre-match interaction.

He reiterated his short-term focus on the tasks at hand. “It’s very simple. Whatever is in front of me, I will give my best. That’s how I have played cricket,” he added at the same interaction.
