Sebastien Pocognoli names 27-man Scotland squad for September and October Nations League

Sebastien Pocognoli announced a 27-player Scotland squad on 15 September 2026 for the UEFA Nations League fixtures scheduled in September and October. The selection leaves out 12 of the Tartan Army’s World Cup stars and features several debutants alongside returning internationals.
Pocognoli, who succeeded Steve Clarke in the Scotland dugout, has reshaped the squad amid a backdrop of injuries and recent retirements among familiar figures. Scotland are drawn in Group E and will meet Switzerland, Slovenia and North Macedonia in the Nations League. The article reports those three opponents are trying to rebound from their dismal performance in the US.
Sevilla attacker Robbie Ure and Brondby’s Luis Binks are named among five players making their first full Scotland squad under Pocognoli. The new selection also includes Celtic defender Colby Donovan, Hearts winger Josh McPake and Swansea City’s Stephen Welsh.
Hull City forward Oli McBurnie returns to the national side after last representing Scotland in 2021. Goalkeepers Scott Bain and Jon McCracken are back in the squad following Craig Gordon’s retirement after the World Cup. Napoli’s Billy Gilmour is included after missing the final World Cup squad under Steve Clarke because of a knee injury.
The four goalkeepers selected are Scott Bain (Falkirk), Angus Gunn (San Jose Earthquakes), Liam Kelly (Rangers) and Jon McCracken (Bradford City). The defensive unit named comprises Luis Binks (Brondby), Josh Doig (Sassuolo), Colby Donovan (Celtic), Luke Graham (Stoke City) and Jack Hendry (Al-Ettifaq).
Also selected in defence were Aaron Hickey (Brentford), Scott McKenna (Dinamo Zagreb), Nathan Patterson (Torino), Andy Robertson (Tottenham), Kieran Tierney (Celtic) and Stephen Welsh (Swansea City). The midfielders called up are Ryan Christie (Bournemouth), Lewis Ferguson (Bologna), Billy Gilmour (Napoli), John McGinn (Aston Villa), Kenny McLean (Norwich City), Josh McPake (Hearts) and Lennon Miller (Udinese).
The forwards included in the 27-player squad are Kieron Bowie (Sassuolo), Findlay Curtis (Rangers), Ben Gannon-Doak (Bournemouth), Oli McBurnie (Hull City), Robbie Ure (Sevilla) and James Wilson (Hearts). This group completes Pocognoli’s first full Scotland squad for the upcoming Nations League window.
Scotland will compete in Group E of the UEFA Nations League, facing Switzerland, Slovenia and North Macedonia during the September and October fixtures.
