Shadab 113* and record last-wicket stand give Pakistan one-wicket win over England in Lahore

Pakistan beat England by one wicket in a tri-series one-day international in Lahore on 25 October 2026, chasing 242 to finish 243-9 in 47.1 overs to England's 241 (46.4 overs). Shadab Khan remained unbeaten on 113 off 96 balls and, with Haris Rauf contributing seven, put on an unbroken 10th-wicket partnership of 89 to clinch the match.
Three days after England conceded 430 in a loss to Sri Lanka, Harry Brook's side again surrendered a strong position after reducing Pakistan to 154-9 while defending 242. The fixture formed part of the tri-series which, with less than a year to the World Cup, England had been using to gain tournament experience.
Shadab produced an unbeaten 113 that the report describes as the highest score by a number eight in an ODI; he struck five sixes and 13 fours in a 96-ball stay. Pakistan's number 11, Haris Rauf, added seven not out and the pair's unbroken 89-run last-wicket stand established a new record for a 10th-wicket partnership to win an ODI.
Shadab appeared to be out lbw to Gus Atkinson on 97 and the teams shook hands before he requested a review, which showed a tiny inside edge and left him reprieved. Rauf then hit debutant Henry Crocombe down the ground for the winning four with 17 balls remaining.
England had been set up by Ben Duckett's 105 off 111 balls but were dismissed for 241, with only the opener, Sam Curran and Gus Atkinson passing 20. Jamie Overton bowled a full quota of 10 overs in one spell and finished with 3-43 as England had mounted a collective bowling effort to leave Pakistan nine down.
Tensions rose in the closing stages: Rauf had to be pulled away from a confrontation with Will Jacks when a Sam Curran bouncer was not called wide, and there was an instance when Rauf might have been run out from Tom Banton's flick when 18 runs remained. Shadab managed the strike throughout the final partnership, with Rauf facing 19 deliveries in an 80-ball stand and defending his first 18 balls before cutting loose on his 19th.
The defeat leaves England winless in the tri-series, their third loss, and places them close to elimination. England are missing Jofra Archer, Jos Buttler and Jacob Bethell on this tour; Adil Rashid was omitted from the XI and Josh Tongue missed out with a toe injury, while the report notes encouraging individual displays from Duckett and Overton may be overshadowed by the result.
England's exit from the tri-series will be confirmed if Sri Lanka beat Pakistan on Tuesday; England are scheduled to play Sri Lanka in their final match on Thursday.
