Shai Hope hits 102* in Ranchi, amasses 432 runs in five outings on India tour

Shai Hope struck an unbeaten 102 in the second T20I against India at Ranchi on October 9, 2026, and has compiled 432 runs across five appearances on the tour (three ODIs and two T20Is).
Hope’s form improved markedly after arriving in India, producing three centuries and a half-century in a two-week spell that included 162 in the New Chandigarh ODI and 102 not out in the Ranchi T20I; he hit the winning runs in both innings, each completing the Windies’ highest successful chase in that format (352 in the ODI and 250 in the T20I).
After the visitors’ record chase on Friday (October 9, 2026), West Indies all-rounder Roston Chase said, “I think people underrate Hope a lot. He is a guy who can block out noise and just focus on what he has to do. Because when everything seems to be going wrong, he’s still up there giving his best and performing for the team.”
Hope is not a typical power hitter and has faced criticism over his scoring tempo, but his recent ball-striking against India produced strike-rates of 112.10 in ODIs and 187.80 in T20Is. “People play down his stats and record in T20 cricket. They always say he either bats too slowly or he bats for himself. I’m always happy when I see him do well. I know he’s an ultimate professional who tries to tick every box and do the right things all the time,” Chase added.
Chase also pointed to work behind the scenes as a factor in Hope’s improved power: “He’s done a lot of gym work to make himself stronger in terms of hitting the ball over the ropes. He also practises a lot of range hitting to get in those strong positions,” Chase explained.
The visitors’ captain drew praise from the opposition as well; head coach Gautam Gambhir said after India’s six-wicket loss, “We know Shai is a world-class cricketer. We respect him for what he has done in white-ball cricket.”
Now, Shai Hope’s best is here, ready for some redemption!
