Shai Hope, Sherfane Rutherford power West Indies to six-wicket win in Ranchi, draw series level

Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford led West Indies to a six-wicket victory over India in the second T20I at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi on October 9, 2026, chasing down 249 in 18.3 overs to draw the series level.
India posted 249 for five in the first innings, with Sanju Samson top-scoring with 82 off 41 balls (9x4, 4x6). Kamil Pooran dropped Samson when he was on six, after which Samson struck boundaries off a free-hit conceded by Akeal Hosein. Ishan Kishan made 43 off 22 balls (6x4, 2x6) before Roston Chase castled him, and Chase also removed Shivam Dube. Shreyas Iyer scored 40 off 18 balls (3x4, 3x6) and Tilak Varma remained unbeaten on 44 off 18 balls (3x4, 3x6), while Springer's 23-run 20th over took India to 249.
Mayank Yadav provided an early spark for India with three for 36, but West Indies’ chase was anchored by Shai Hope (102 n.o., 45b, 6x4, 9x6) and Sherfane Rutherford (84, 37b, 7x4, 7x6). The pair compiled a 120-run stand off 54 deliveries that put the visitors firmly in control of the required rate.
Kuldeep Yadav might have broken the stand earlier had Mayank held on to a regulation catch, and Kuldeep later had Rutherford caught behind in the 15th over. At that point West Indies still required 72 from 35 balls.
Hope accelerated the finish alongside Romario Shepherd (34 n.o., 13b, 3x4, 3x6); Hope struck two sixes off Axar Patel to complete his century and, together with Shepherd, saw West Indies home in 18.3 overs. The two final sixes also signalled West Indies' highest successful run chase in T20Is.
The six-wicket victory drew West Indies level in the T20 series.
