The ICC and Cricket South Africa unveiled South Africa’s full schedule for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 in Cape Town on October 1, 2026, one year before the tournament, which is set to begin on October 2, 2027 with the final scheduled for November 21. South Africa will serve as one of three host nations alongside Zimbabwe and Namibia.
The 50-over World Cup returns to Africa after 24 years and will feature 14 teams. South Africa have been drawn in Group B with New Zealand, Sri Lanka, England, Bangladesh and Qualifier B. The Proteas must finish among the top three in their group to progress to the Super 7 stage. South Africa will play five matches in the group stage.
South Africa’s group fixtures include matches in Paarl and Gqeberha; they face Qualifier B on October 13 in Paarl and England on October 16 in Gqeberha. The schedule released by the ICC and Cricket South Africa provides the full list of venues and dates for the hosts’ group games.
South Africa have never won the ODI World Cup, despite reaching the semi-finals on four occasions. Their semi-final appearances came in 1992, 1999, 2007, 2015 and 2023.
The Proteas finished seventh in the 2019 World Cup after winning three of their nine league matches. They had a better run in the 2023 edition, reaching the semi-finals before losing to Australia.
The 2027 tournament will give South Africa another opportunity to go beyond the semi-final stage and push for their first ODI World Cup title. South Africa will begin their campaign against New Zealand on October 9 in Cape Town.
