Sunrisers Leeds beat Manchester Super Giants to reach The Hundred knockouts
Sunrisers Leeds defeated Manchester Super Giants by 41 runs at Old Trafford in The Hundred on 11 August 2026, securing a place in the competition's knockout phase.
Sunrisers posted 166-4 (100 balls) in the first innings while Manchester Super Giants were restricted to 125-8 (100 balls) in reply; Grace Scrivens top-scored for the Super Giants with 31 (24) and Jess Jonassen finished with 3-21. Jess Jonassen has played 105 T20 internationals for Australia.
Jonassen did the early damage for Sunrisers, taking the key wickets of Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh (for 28 and 13), and she also bowled Meg Lanning for 10 after Lanning had chewed up 15 deliveries. The Sunrisers bowling unit, aided by sharp fielding, kept scoreboard pressure on Manchester throughout the chase despite Scrivens' efforts.
The Super Giants resorted to retiring a player during their reply when Kathryn Bryce was retired out after making 15 from 14 balls. Remarkably, it is the second time Bryce has been out this way in The Hundred, having been retired out while playing for the Manchester Originals against Northern Superchargers in August 2024.
The finish was largely routine for Sunrisers as Annabel Sutherland and Deepti Sharma returned figures of 2-17 and 2-21 respectively to wrap up the innings. Manchester were unable to rebuild after the early damage and their run-rate stalled in the heat at Old Trafford.
Sunrisers' 166 was built on a late flourish: Phoebe Litchfield hit 27 off 12 balls before miscuing a pull to mid-wicket off Mady Villiers, while Annabel Sutherland contributed an unbeaten 62* (36) featuring three sixes and six fours. Sunrisers captain Dani Gibson added 24 off 13 before being dismissed by Villiers, who finished as the Super Giants' leading bowler with 2-25.
The action in The Hundred moves to Sophia Gardens and Edgbaston on Wednesday with two double-headers: Welsh Fire host London Spirit and Birmingham Phoenix entertain MI London. Fire's women face Spirit at 11:30 BST and Phoenix play MI London at 15:00; all four of those sides cannot make the knockout stages, while Fire's men must win big against Spirit at 15:00 to boost net run-rate and MI London need a strong result at Phoenix at 18:30 to have a chance of sneaking into third place.
Sunrisers leapfrogged Manchester Super Giants into third place and will face Southern Brave in the Eliminator at The Oval on Friday; the winner will meet Trent Rockets in the final at Lord's on Sunday.
