Vedam Jaishankar’s Developing Champions in Cricket released in Bengaluru
Senior journalist Vedam Jaishankar’s book Developing Champions in Cricket was released at the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association premises in Bengaluru on Thursday, August 06, 2026. Vedam Jaishankar and former India cricketer Brijesh Patel released the book alongside other guests at the event.
Spanning 75 pages, the book addresses various stages of a child’s journey towards becoming a cricketer, covering topics from choosing the right equipment to the tenets of batting, bowling and fielding. The text aims to provide practical guidance for young players and those involved in their development.
“Everybody wants to play cricket today, but it is a lottery,” Jaishankar said. “You need to give it time. You need to know the right bats to use, the right pads… this book will help. There is even a full chapter for coaches, to help them understand how to promote a player and make learning enjoyable,” he added.
Former India cricketer and veteran administrator Brijesh Patel described the book as a valuable guide amid an overload of information. “Very few books speak to three of the most important people — the child, the parent and the coach. This book does and that is what makes it different,” said Brijesh.
“There is so much confusion these days. Should one specialise early? Which bat to use? Which coach to go to? This book will help simplify all that. I hope it becomes a trusted companion to every aspiring cricketer and parent,” he added.
