Vinicius Jr. signed a long-term contract with Real Madrid on Thursday, August 6, ending speculation that he might join Arsenal after reported interest from the Premier League champions.

The agreement ties Vinicius to Real Madrid until June 30, 2032, with the club issuing a statement that read: "Real Madrid CF and Vinicius Jr. have agreed to extend the contract of our player, who is now tied to the club until June 30, 2032." The statement added, "Vinicius Jr. has become one of the most important players in one of the most successful periods in our history." According to the Athletic, the forward initially rebuffed approaches for an extension and faced the options of running down his contract, moving to Arsenal or re-signing with Los Blancos; that report said the new deal reflects his importance to the club and their project.

Vinicius arrived from Flamengo in the summer of 2018 and, across 375 appearances for Los Blancos, has scored 128 goals and provided 100 assists. Those numbers came as part of a spell that contributed to three La Liga titles and two UEFA Champions League crowns for Real Madrid.

In the 2025-26 season Vinicius scored 22 goals in all competitions, but Real Madrid finished second in La Liga, eight points behind Barcelona, and the club did not add any major silverware. The Athletic’s account framed the contract decision against that backdrop of a trophyless campaign.

The Brazilian's individual honours listed by the club and reports include being crowned The Best FIFA Men's Player in 2024 and winning the Golden Ball at the FIFA Intercontinental Cup in 2024. He was also named UEFA Champions League Player of the Season for 2023-24, after previously claiming the FIFA Club World Cup Golden Ball in 2022 and the UEFA Champions League Young Player of the Season accolade in 2021-22.

Real Madrid's announcement of Vinicius's extension arrived amid a busy transfer window for the club; they have signed Ibrahim Konate, Marc Cucurella and Denzel Dumfries among other deals, and on Thursday also announced a deal to sign Ivory Coast winger Yan Diomande.

The new contract keeps Vinicius at Real Madrid until June 30, 2032, meaning he will remain a part of the club's long-term future.
