Wales captain Ben Davies said his side will be driven by a determination to prove they can thrive in Nations League A when they face Denmark in Cardiff on Sunday. Davies has played 90 minutes of all three Wales games so far in this international break.

Wales go into the match in buoyant mood after ending a six-game winless sequence by taking the scalp of Norway on Thursday. That 2-1 victory, achieved after coming from behind, was Wales' first ever victory in the Nations League's top tier and eased pressure that had built since the thrashing of North Macedonia last November. Their recent run also included defeat against Bosnia-Herzegovina in the World Cup play-off semi-final, friendly draws with Northern Ireland and Ghana and successive defeats to Romania, Portugal and the Danes.

Wales' cause against Norway was helped by Norway defender Torbjorn Heggem's red card early in the second half, though they had troubled the World Cup quarter-finalists even before the sending off. "We don't want to be in a situation where you feel like you're not competing against bigger teams," Davies said. "but I thought we laid a good marker down the other night [against Norway] to show that we do belong playing against these teams - it was a much better all-round performance."

The 103-cap Tottenham defender added: "I think we really got back to what's got us to success and got us into the Nations League A in the first place. Hopefully we can replicate that [against Denmark]."

"The teams at this level are all strong," Davies said. "All the games are going to be tough but we're here to compete and here to try to give the best account of us that we can. "I thought we did that the other night and it was really pleasing to get the three points. It gives us, as a group, a lot of confidence going into the games coming up." Bellamy says he has no choice but to make changes to the side which began on Thursday as Wales seek to make amends for last Sunday's defeat in Denmark.

Wales will again be without the likes of Karl Darlow, Joe Rodon, Dylan Lawlor, David Brooks and Harry Wilson because of injury as they look to maintain the momentum gained thanks to the Norway triumph. They face a Danish side who, in 21st, are 17 places above them in the Fifa rankings. "It does make a big difference going away. We didn't get a grip on the game [in Denmark] whereas when we played Norway in Cardiff, it's our home, our fans, our atmosphere," Davies said. "It felt like a different game and we had much more control… you just know you have to try to make your home advantage count."
